Bali Airport Transfer Guide 2026: Don't Get Scammed on Day 1
How to get from Bali airport to your hotel safely and cheaply. Fair prices, vetted drivers, and what to avoid.
The Airport Situation
Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) is Bali's only airport. The moment you exit arrivals, you'll be hit by a wall of aggressive taxi touts holding signs and shouting prices. This is the #1 stress point for first-time Bali visitors — and the #1 place tourists overpay.
Here's exactly what to do.
Option 1: Pre-Book a Private Transfer (Best Option)
The smartest move is booking a driver before you land. Your driver meets you in the arrivals hall holding a sign with your name, helps with luggage, and drives you directly to your hotel in an air-conditioned car.
Fair Prices (2026)
Airport → Seminyak/Kuta: 150K–200K IDR ($9–12)
Airport → Canggu: 200K–250K IDR ($12–15)
Airport → Ubud: 300K–400K IDR ($19–25)
Airport → Uluwatu/Nusa Dua: 150K–200K IDR ($9–12)
Airport → Sanur: 100K–150K IDR ($6–9)
These are what you should pay. Airport touts charge 2–3x these amounts.
Option 2: Official Airport Taxi Counter
If you didn't pre-book, find the official taxi counter inside the arrivals building (before you exit to the main hall). Prices here are fixed and displayed on a board. They're higher than pre-booking but still far cheaper than random touts.
Walk past ALL the touts. Don't make eye contact. Don't engage. Just find the counter.
Option 3: Grab (Ride-Hailing App)
Grab works at Bali airport but with restrictions. You need to walk to the designated pickup area (follow the signs to GrabCar Pickup on Level 1). Note: the local taxi mafia has historically resisted ride-hailing at the airport, so the pickup point may not be conveniently located.
Prices are usually 10–20% cheaper than the official counter but involve more walking with luggage.
What NOT to Do
❌ Don't accept a ride from anyone who approaches you. They are unlicensed touts charging 3–5x the fair rate.
❌ Don't follow someone who says "I'll give you good price." It won't be.
❌ Don't get in an unmetered car without agreeing on price first.
❌ Don't exchange money at the airport — rates are terrible. Wait until you reach your area.
Tips for a Smooth Arrival
1. Have your hotel name and address saved offline on your phone (screenshot it).
2. Carry small USD bills ($1, $5) for the Visa on Arrival if you don't want to use card.
3. Fill out the customs declaration form online before landing (customs.go.id).
4. Buy an eSIM before departing your home country — you'll have internet immediately upon landing.
5. If arriving late at night (after 10pm), pre-booking is even more critical — touts charge premium rates.
